How the Pakistan income tax calculator works

The Income Tax Calculator is a free online salary tax calculator for people who earn employment income in Pakistan. Enter a monthly or annual salary, choose the fiscal year, and the calculator converts the amount into annual taxable salary before applying the relevant progressive tax slab. The result panel shows estimated annual income tax, monthly tax deduction, annual take-home income, monthly take-home salary, effective tax rate and marginal tax rate. This makes the page useful as an annual income tax calculator, a monthly income tax calculator and a salary income tax calculator without requiring separate forms.

The default calculation covers FY 2026-27, also described as Tax Year 2027 for many filing and payroll discussions. You can switch to the income tax calculator 2025-26 when checking an earlier payslip or comparing the two fiscal years. The calculator follows the published salaried-person formulas in the Finance Act for each supported year. It is an independent educational tool and is not an official FBR income tax calculator, so final payroll withholding and return figures should still be checked against current Federal Board of Revenue guidance.

    What information should you enter?

Use gross taxable salary before income tax rather than the amount already received in your bank account. If the monthly option is selected, the tool multiplies the entered salary by twelve. If the annual option is selected, it treats the amount as annual taxable salary. Add taxable annual bonus, arrears, commission or benefits in the separate field when they are not already included. The purpose is to estimate tax on the income that falls under the salary head, not to reproduce every item on an employer's payroll statement.

People often search for an online income tax calculator after receiving a job offer, a pay increase or a bonus. The most useful comparison is usually gross monthly salary, estimated monthly tax and net salary after tax. The tool therefore keeps these figures together. It also displays the annual view because Pakistan salary tax slabs are applied to annual taxable income, even though employers normally deduct an estimated amount each month.

How progressive salary tax is calculated

Pakistan uses progressive salary income tax slabs. A higher marginal rate does not apply to the whole salary. Instead, the fixed tax amount for the lower completed bands is combined with a percentage of income above the lower limit of the current band. For example, an annual salary of Rs. 3,840,000 in FY 2026-27 falls in the band above Rs. 3,200,000 and up to Rs. 4,100,000. The formula is Rs. 316,000 plus 25% of the amount above Rs. 3,200,000. The excess is Rs. 640,000, so the additional tax is Rs. 160,000 and estimated annual tax is Rs. 476,000.

Dividing Rs. 476,000 by twelve produces an estimated monthly deduction of about Rs. 39,667. The estimated monthly take-home salary is therefore about Rs. 280,333 before provident fund, EOBI, loan instalments, insurance, charity, employer adjustments or other payroll deductions. This worked example explains why a salary tax calculator Pakistan result may differ from a simple percentage calculation.

FY 2026-27 and FY 2025-26 comparison

The income tax calculator 2026-27 includes the additional intermediate bands introduced between Rs. 4.1 million and Rs. 7 million, while the highest 35% marginal rate begins above Rs. 7 million. The income tax calculator 2025-26 uses the earlier structure in which the top 35% band starts above Rs. 4.1 million. FY 2025-26 also includes a 9% surcharge on the calculated salary income tax when annual taxable salary exceeds Rs. 10 million. The comparison panel estimates the difference at the same annual taxable income.

A budget comparison is useful for planning, but it should not be confused with a refund calculation. A lower annual liability under a later fiscal year does not automatically create a refund for tax deducted in an earlier fiscal year. Each tax year must be considered separately, and payroll withholding can be adjusted during the year as an employer receives updated salary, bonus and previous-employment information.

What the estimate includes and excludes

The core estimate includes the standard salaried-person slab formula, annualisation of monthly salary, optional taxable annual bonus, the applicable FY 2025-26 surcharge and a comparison between supported years. It does not determine whether a particular allowance is exempt, whether a tax credit is available, whether deductible allowances apply or how income from property, business, capital gains, dividends, profit on debt or foreign sources should be treated. A rental income tax calculator Pakistan or business income tax calculator Pakistan requires different rules and should not be mixed into a salary-only result.

The result also does not represent a filed return, an assessment order or legal advice. Actual deductions can change because of joining or leaving during the year, salary revisions, irregular bonuses, arrears, previous employer income, tax credits, approved donations, pension contributions, exemptions, rounding and year-end payroll reconciliation. Use the estimate as a planning figure and compare it with your salary certificate, payslips and current official instructions.

    Using the multi-year salary calculator

The multi-year tab is designed for supported employment periods that cross a fiscal-year boundary. Enter start and end dates with the monthly salary for each period. The tool separates covered days into FY 2025-26 and FY 2026-27, estimates income for each supported fiscal year and applies that year's salary tax formula. This can help when a contract begins late in one fiscal year, a salary changes after 1 July or two employment periods need to be compared.

Partial-period results are estimates because payroll and tax return treatment can depend on actual receipts, employer certificates and the complete annual position. The daily allocation used by the tool is a practical planning method, not a substitute for professional review. For a straightforward full-year salary, the single-year mode is the simpler option.

Why this calculator is fast and private

The calculation runs in the browser with lightweight JavaScript. Salary values entered into the current static version are not submitted to a server or stored in an account database. There is no registration requirement. The page uses semantic HTML, accessible labels and a responsive layout for laptops, desktop computers, tablets and mobile devices. The small code base also helps reduce loading time and makes the calculator easier for search engines and AI agents to interpret.

Machine-readable tax rate data is available in the site's JSON file, while important pages are listed in the sitemap and llms.txt files. These supporting files do not change the calculation. They describe the same entities shown on the page: Pakistan, salary income, annual taxable income, fiscal year, tax slab, monthly tax, annual tax and take-home pay.

How to get the most reliable estimate

    1. Choose the fiscal year that covers the salary period you are checking.
    2. Enter gross taxable salary before income tax, not net salary after tax.
    3. Add taxable bonus or benefits only when they are not already included.
    4. Review both the annual tax and monthly deduction instead of looking only at the marginal rate.
    5. Compare the estimate with official rates, your employer's salary certificate and professional advice when the amount is material.
Important: Income Tax Calculator provides an independent educational estimate. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by FBR, and it does not replace a tax return, payroll calculation or advice from a qualified professional.
